Due to the international interest in the collaboration of Hans Eysenck and Ronald Grossarth-Maticek, the ruprecht not only publishes an English translation of our account of the affair. With Grossarth-Maticek’s permission, we also publish some of his documents. This is supposed to clarify some circumstances which have not been publicly known until now.

Thus far, we have only published two of those documents, but we might add more later on. Translations from German and Serbian, respectively, are provided below. The documents are:

  • Hans Eysenck: “Confirmation for obtaining the acknowledgement of medical insurance companies for behavioural therapy within the Federal Republic of Germany” (June 4, 1996; translated from German)
  • University of Belgrade: “Diploma of the Doctorate of the Medical Sciences” (December 23, 1991; translated from Serbian)

for obtaining the acknowledgement of medical insurance companies for behavioural therapy within the Federal Republic of Germany

Through his own research efforts, Dr R. Grossarth-Maticek developed a highly effective form of behavioural therapy (autonomy training or training for stimulating self-regulation).

He published these results in many scientific articles in the most renowned international journals for behavioural therapy.

In addition, from 1982 to 1994, I gave him all training lessons and conducted all examinations that are necessary for practicing behavioural therapy. In doing so, I imposed the strictest standards in terms of both therapeutic practice and theoretical foundations, with the goal to bring Dr Grossarth-Maticek’s behavioural therapy performances on the highest international level.

It is my conviction that I absolutely succeeded at it.

I have engaged in the following activities during his course of studies:

  1. 135 hours of supervision
  2. Inspection of 65 elaborate case documentations
  3. 750 hours of theoretical education in behavioural therapy and learning theory (The pertinent international literature on learning theory and behavioural therapy was studied at my recommendation and used as a basis for the examinations)
  4. After 8 years, the first intermediate examination on the subject of “learning theory and methods of behavioural therapy” was conducted. Certificate mark: very good.
  5. After 12 years, final examination on the subject of “Methods behavioural therapy with particular consideration of the further development in the area of cognitive behavioural therapy achieved by Grossarth-Maticek” Mark: very good.

Recommendation based on the training and the accomplished scientific work:

Dr Grossarth-Maticek is especially qualified for

a) the practice behavioural therapy in many areas, such as oncological behavioural therapy, preventive behavioural therapy, addiction treatment, etc.

b) training in the subject of behavioural therapy, especially for presenting new and effective methods, and the experimental validation of their efficacy.

It has been shown that the methods of behavioural medicine chosen by Dr Grossarth-Maticek are those which have proven themselves as the most effective ones; with his own therapeutic performance being hardly surpassable.

I am convinced that the opening of an office for behavioural therapy by Professor Ronald Grossarth-Maticek will provide decisive impulses for practice, teaching and research in the area of behavioural medicine. Among other things, a tight cooperation with hospitals is recommendable, in the course of which Grossarth-Maticek can both train physicians in behavioural therapy (particularly in highly effective short forms that are, for example, applied in conversations with a physician) and conduct problematic therapies himself.
